I still can't figure out how to write in this blog so the words are where you want them. But I think I'm doing pretty good just getting the pictures uploaded and figuring out where to write anything at all. I'm not too good at this. I look at Angie's blog and feel a little bit like I'm in kindergarten! Oh well. On with the explanation of these pictures. We went on a Cruise to Hawaii with Preston and Melanie. Preston served his mission here and we wanted to take him back, as a bonus for the over time hours he had worked while in Idaho for the year. So we got on the ship in Honolulu and took off. The next morning was Sunday and we docked in Maui. Preston served a lot of time in Maui and especially loved Hana. He was real close to the people there. It is very remote and missionaries are only assigned there occasionally because it is so remote and the population is small. They only have a branch there. We were at least 2 hours away from Hana so we hurried up and got our Sunday clothes on and rented a car. Then the trip to Hana started. The road to Hana is very narrow, in fact, in many many places it is only one lane. Where it is two lanes it is very curvy. So needless to say, to travel 30 miles it takes over one hour. We needed to be there in time for Church. I think Church started at 9:00 if I remember right and I think we had at least 50 miles to go. (mabe more, I don't have a very good memory for numbers) So VerLynn was driving and I was hanging on for dear life. Preston was in the back cheering VerLynn on and telling him when to honk at people to get out of the way and when to pass. Oh, dear, I thought I was going to pass out. Poor little guy (Preston)took all he could take of the curves and he lost his whole breakfast on Melanie's lap! Then the miracle happened. Now you have to realize that this was the main thing that Preston wanted to be able to do while in Hawaii and it looked like there would be no way to get to Hana in time for church. The branch only meets for 2 hours, not three so we were very limited on the time. Because VerLynn was able to manuever the curves like a native, we arrived at 9:30! Poor Melanie had a mess to clean up so she headed straight for the bathroom to clean her and little guy up. They were still having testimony meeting so we walked in during the middle of it. All of the doors and windows were open in the most beautiful chapel. I'll try to add a picture of it. So everyone saw us drive up and walk up too. Those bearing testimony that knew Preston acknowledged him and at the end they announced that everyone would go home and come back with food to feed us! It was amazing. Within an hour everyone was back with whatever food they had. We had hot dogs, sandwiches, noodles, cheese, chips, and other stuff I don't remember. The people were so warm and friendly and you could tell they loved Preston. The pictures here are of some of the families he grew close to here. Preston could tell you more, but I thought it was a tender mercy for Preston that we were able to get there in time. (Little guy got changed into extra clothes and his t shirt now says "chicks dig me!" (Not everyone can wear a white shirt that says that to Church!)
